On the roof tops of Beacon Hill lay opportunities for an urban oasis, a back yard of sorts. With panoramic views of the Back Bay and a great position for the traditional fourth of July fireworks, Chris crafted this roof top deck to take advantage of the possibilities. With a neighboring deck above, the goal was to create privacy and definition to this owner’s personal space while maximizing and focusing on the unobstructed views. Cost comparisons were made and the decision was to use natural mahogany for the decking and privacy rails. For rails visible from the street, the historical commission requires a simple black steel rail which complements the wood and surrounding environment. Accommodations were crafted for additional overhead sun shades and festoon lighting to evoke playfulness in casual good weather gatherings.
