The Roof Top Union required a true team effort between Christopher, the client, the contractor, and the engineer. With stunning panoramic views of Boston, this roof top room and deck provides its owner an expanded living space for all seasons. An existing spiral staircase leads to the newly constructed and expanded head house, opening to the green grass decking some fifty feet above Bostons historic South End neighborhood. Clad in copper and synthetic slates, the head house provides a year-round perch from which to peacefully view the surroundings. The good weather unites the space with the outdoors for summer cookouts and evening cocktails. Although small, this was a complex and expensive project. The entire rear portion of the existing building was reconstructed to facilitate this highly desirable feature. Several structural modifications were required, including the installation of a 24-foot steel beam to support the roof top addition. Permitting the project was a lengthy process.
