A homeowner with a property including a rental unit was conflicted by the lack of clarity between his home and the rental. Unfortunately for this homeowner, the rental unit, while smaller in size, dominated the main house from the street.

The poor condition of the rental necessitated a complete replacement. In addition to the basic needs to reconstruct, a goal of the work was to reduce the visual impact of the rental unit. To accomplish this, Christopher reduced the rental unit’s appearance to what now looks like a small side entry, diminutive to the main house. Furthering this concept, the rental apartment entry is visually different from the main house adding clarity to the context of main house vs rental.

This image shows the rental unit. Look for future images showing how the rental unit no longer dominates the main house.
